24-Hour Movers (2026-08-28)

A full-market scan narrowed to the ten biggest moves. Every attribution carries its evidence tier on the badge — first-party filing, press coverage, or an honest blank. Numbers only ever come from first-party sources.

Nothing in the window before the move began lines up on both timing and scope — not a first-party filing, not a press report. We would rather leave this blank than supply a reason that merely sounds plausible.

Rubrik filed its quarter with the SEC the evening before, gapped down at the open and printed -13% on the session. Besides its own 8-K, the only other source on this card is a headline about the Fed chair speaking that day.

MechanismWhat this row is really about is the line between what the card can prove and what it cannot. Both ends are solid: on August 27, 2026 Rubrik issued a press release announcing results for the fiscal quarter ended July 31, 2026 — a first-party document it filed with the SEC itself, which is why the badge reads primary and does not have to fall back on press coverage — and the price gapped at the next opening bell, closing the session at -13%. The middle, the part that would say why the gap went down rather than up, is not on this card. The only other source here is a pre-open market preview whose headline leads with the Fed chair speaking that day and only then lists a few of the session's big movers: that is the whole market's background noise, not an explanation of this one name. So we stop where the evidence stops. Results were published, the price went the other way, and as for what the market was actually worried about, there is no link on this page that takes the reader to the answer, so we do not write one. PayPal is here because the scanner grouped it by direction and sector; it brings no source of its own to this card that explains its decline, and we will not lend it Rubrik's reason. The lag, stated plainly: 1 of the 2 gapped straight at the 13:30 UTC bell and the pricing was finished inside the opening print, so for that part the lag cannot be measured and we will not invent one.

Press coverage only — no first-party filing came back. Confidence is therefore capped at medium: we know what happened, just not from the party it happened to.

IREN printed -13% on the session — the same day a $2.4 billion financing led by Blue Owl, raised to pay for its GPUs, was locked in. The piece that put it in a headline next to Applied Digital framed the day as a data-center selloff broadening out.

MechanismWhat is worth pausing on is that two pieces of news pointing in opposite directions sit on this same card. One is money coming in: several outlets and a press release all describe the same thing — funds managed by Blue Owl leading a $2.4 billion debt financing for IREN's GPUs and AI data centers. The other is the price leaving: in the same batch, one story puts IREN down 13% and Applied Digital down 7% in a single headline and says this data-center selloff has moved past one name, while a video segment pins the fall on a data-center transformation that is eating into profitability. The two are not contradictory. Landing the financing says somebody is willing to fund this route; the falling price says the market is repricing what the route is going to cost — and on this day it settled the second bill first. The boundary needs saying too: every source on this card is press coverage, not one is a document the company filed itself, which is why the badge on this row reads unattributed rather than primary. The badge is awarded for what can vouch for the move on the card, not for what the company actually did. The move starts at 15:30 UTC, away from the opening bell, so this time the lag really is measurable — what is measurable being when the price began to move, not why.

Nothing in the window before the move began lines up on both timing and scope — not a first-party filing, not a press report. We would rather leave this blank than supply a reason that merely sounds plausible.

Methodology

Evidence tier

Change
For crypto this is the exchange's rolling 24-hour figure (last price over the price 24 hours ago). For US equities it is the session change, previous close to last: US markets are shut about 17.5 hours a day, so a literal 24-hour window would fold two sessions into one number.
Volume vs baseline
Volume of the breakout bar divided by the median of the prior 20 bars. The baseline is a median, not a mean, so the spike cannot inflate its own denominator.
Sigma move
This move measured in standard deviations of the instrument's own 30-day realised volatility. The larger the number, the less it looks like ordinary noise.
Rank in past 100 days
Where this move ranks among the past 100 complete trading days. Rank 1 means the biggest in a hundred sessions.
Lag
Time between the catalyst event and the start of the move. If the event lands after the move began, the entry is marked unattributed.
Gap at the open
The news broke before the bell, so the repricing was finished by the time trading opened. This row's move starts at the opening bell itself, which means there is no lag to measure — and we do not print one.
Measured from
Price, volume and range for this row are measured here.
Leads
The events below pass the scope test but not the timing one — listed as leads, not as attributions.
